📋 Even Amazon isn’t immune from trying to insert just a little too much aspirational into their employer brand. “Earth’s best employer” claim didn’t quite come to be. The major culprit? “Amazon came up with the best-employer idea before clearly defining what it means.”
📋 What’s missing in recruiting? According to this author, we need to deliver some kind of promise or Proposition to the candidate, wherein we define the Value we offer as an Employer. Like some kind of… I don’t know… a Proposition of Value? Something the Employer offers to candidates about why a prospect should think about working there, where the Employer is crystal clear about the Value they are Proposing? 🙄
📋 Yesterday in a webinar, I said, “employer branders should have ‘you are not the candidate’ tattooed in reverse on their foreheads.” A bit drastic? Perhaps. But it is a real problem when we conflate what we like with what other people like. Here’s a great example of how little we understand our own coworkers.
📋 Recent numbers show we’re looking at 30% of employees are permanently remote. This change in commute, communication, and effectiveness. And now people are talking about a 4-day workweek seriously. So yeah. Work is changing.
📋 It’s always exciting when EB isn’t talked about as some weird feature that has something to do with recruiting. This article talks about EB in terms of corporate values. (And I believe some of my subscribers are quoted in it!)
📋 Making fun of corporate stock photos. Turns out Eb is not the only kind of branding saddled with these things…
📋 I like referring to brands as filters, as strategies, promises, and even as a bird’s nest. So “a brand is like an operating system” was a really interesting read.
