Employer brand is often stuck quietly in a corner or TA or marketing. Like a field mouse, we live in our burrows, focusing on finding ways to increase reach, attract higher quality talent, and maybe build some content.
But we are not mice. We are foxes, cleverly doing more with less. We are hawks, spying the tiny opportunities from a distance. We are honey badgers, fearless and strong as we make a company better.
As such, it is time to let leadership know of your value.
The CEO’s job is to:
Make decisions that set the business up for success by seeing beyond this quarter and this year.
Decide what choices must be made today and what can be delayed.
Align all resources to create flywheels that delivers success, to see the whole business instead of a team or function.
In short: Set the strategy and make sure the business has the resources to execute it.
Strategy is:
Positioning an organization and its resources for current and future success.
Leveraging existing resources and generating new resources ($, time, leadership, people) creatively to maximize impact, growth, and profit.
Re-framing the situation to give your business the best chance at success.
The application and use of resources to achieve more than someone else using more than you.
Employer branding is:
Generates desire amongst game-changing talent and hires more of them.
Reaches the talent that recruiting can't.
Aligns internal resources towards a shared goal and ensures that the hired people share that goal.
Drives value today, but more next quarter and even more next year.
Offers Marketing more tools to generate positive brand awareness.
Thus:
Employer branding isn’t just a “TA thing.” It’s a “strategy thing.”
It attracts a higher level of talent that is aligned with core principles to create value in every part of the company with lower friction.
It creates its own value by elevating recruiting, hiring, and human resources as it reinforces culture, attracts the talent who help solve more useful problems, and tells a more human story about the brand to the world.
While you can see the value immediately,
it flywheels, creating more value next quarter and even more next year.
To sum up: employer branding has a lot to offer leadership. But they won’t know that until you show them!
