Iâve met data scientists. And biologists. And developers. And managers. And project managers. I know salespeople. I know nurse or two. I know some therapists. I know a museum curator and some teachers. I know a few VPs of HR and sales. I know a bunch of TA/HR Ops folks. And plenty of recruiters.
And in general, they arenât exactly obsessed with their professional field.
Sure, some of those devs are coding a project they hope they can sell. And that museum curator works some crazy long hours.
But the best designers seem to never more than a step or two from their notepad. The best editors are always looking at language and thinking, âI could have pulled two words from that sentence.â Business owners are always thinking about their businesses.
And thatâs how I would categorize employer branders. Weâre a little obsessed. Okay, a lot obsessed.
Maybe itâs because we know that our work can help every single part of the company and weâve all got such a long road to travel to make that happen.
Maybe itâs because EB is a doorway into visual design, writing, video design, event management, strategy, web design, social media, community development, advocacy, system design, process design, design design, etc etc etc. Get in and youâre allowed to play with all the cool toys.
Maybe its because for the most part, our bosses are still pretty hazy on what we do, and tend to give us a little more slack and room to maneuver, and deep in our hearts we know thatâs a gift that everyone receives.
And maybe it is because weâre on the front lines of trying to make hiring better for everyone: the company, the recruiter, the hiring manager and the candidate. We are attempting to create matches at scale, something that isnât supposed to be possible (and maybe the sheer gall of trying to upend the modern recruiting industrial complex adds to it).
Maybe its all of those things and maybe its none of those things.
But for all of you who have been changed by employer branding, who have fallen into the rabbit hole and have no interest in getting out, whether youâre at a big obvious company or making things happening in more obscure places, youâve got a friend in me.
Some places want to âcertifyâ you in employer branding. And I am thrilled that they are creating more people who can see the value of employer brand to their company.
But thatâs not the same as actually getting your hands dirty, of doing your own research and analysis, of having your brand come into focus in front of you, a brand you will use immediately to attract and hire talent better, faster and cheaper.
Thatâs the promise of the EVP Workshop. In six weeks, youâll build your own brand using the same model I used and still use to build employer brands. But the work will be yours because you know what makes your company pretty great.
The next classes start Feb 15 and March 7. If you you use code EBH, you can get 20% off.
