IS IT TIME FOR A REBRAND?
🪆 I whole-heartedly support Will’s claim here that employer branding is having a bit of an identity crisis. Too many people are thinking they need “an EVP” or an “employer brand” not really knowing what they think they are getting or what impact they expect it to have.
💡 To go along with the above article, here’s a piece on how the entire concept of strategy needs its own make-over.
WHAT IS QUALITY?
🪆 Kevin Wheeler has been putting out some great thinking on the future of talent, and one element of his latest grabbed me and shook me around (cerebrally, of course). The idea that talent quality is an output, not an input. Oof! In other words, people aren’t inherently “quality,” they just get put in positions and contexts where their skills make maximum impact. Think of it this way: if Steve Jobs was hired as a coder, would he still have been seen as a genius?

💡 I am an absolute sucker for zine-esque pieces like this, especially when they rail against modern business/marketing strategy.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?
🪆 Brands are emotional. (see all the research on how minds make memories and decisions based on emotions and then are post-rationalized by logic.) So it stands to reason that brands that create excitement are most successful.
COMPANIES ARE TAKING EB SERIOUSLY
💡 According to Universum’s research, a stunning 78% of businesses who responded said that employer brand is one of their top priorities. But don’t take it on faith. They are an EB company, so companies they talk to and who respond to them may have EB top of mind. But still. 878% is amazing. Is this the beginning of EB’s golden age?
PEOPLE FIRST! WHO KNEW?
🪆 So… humans should be at the heart of your marketing strategy? If only we knew of people who focused exclusively on the human aspect of company brands…
